This week’s topic is about knowing store policies when returning expensive or custom made products with retailers.
For example, you can purchase exercise equipment or mattresses and they make it clear that you can return an item within 90-120 days; no questions asked. With that being said, not all companies work the same.
Just recently I purchased a piece of furniture that cost $2,000 which took over three months to have it made and delivered.
As soon as the family sat on it we realized that it was not going to suit our needs.
So naturally we went to the retailer's website and the policy stated that they do not return items unless they are defective; however, I said why not call them anyway?
Upon talking to them they were very helpful; we explained the situation and they gave us a full refund.
Moreover, they said if we ordered from them again they’d waive that delivery fee as well.
So as it turns out, we purchased a new sofa one week later. In fact, they waived the delivery fee and gave us a store credit because we paid for the product in full.
The bottom line is that you should understand all policies before purchasing especially large ticket items. In addition, most retailers will work with you to achieve customer satisfaction and can create a long-term relationship.
