PFT #29 - Rubbermaid FreshWorks Containers Increases Food Freshness by 80%

Updated: Feb 3, 2022

This week’s personal finance tip of the week is extending the life of your produce.

Did you know that Americans waste about 40% of their food? That’s like ordering 10 chicken wings at the restaurant and asking them to only bring you six.

So when it comes to fruit and vegetables such as strawberries, leafy greens and fleshy fruit, they can expire in 3-4 days.

So this is why I like Rubbermaid’s FreshWorks food storage containers. They have a unique design that can keep food fresh for 80% longer than standard containers.

Basically, the food inside the container is elevated from the bottom to promote air circulation and carbon dioxide.

In addition there is a filter in the lid that doesn’t require replacement; and these containers can be cleaned in the dishwasher.

Okay cool. Now there is one thing to understand with food in that it can vary in how long it takes to expire. This mainly has to do with the age of the food when you purchase. So keep this in mind when you begin using these containers.

All in all, these containers can save you money on your produce over time:

  1. You eliminate that 40% food waste

  2. You will use less plastic bags which supports a cleaner and safer environment
